Carnac Standing Stones - Brittany 2013
In the summer of 2013 we travelled down the western coast of France to another family favourite campsite in the Vendee. On our way back up to Roscoff we stopped off at Carnac to see the famous Carnac Standing Stones!.
The whole area is covered in rows upon rows of stones ranging in size from the small to the enormous. It's quite an awe inspiring sight and well worth a visit if you're passing. There are a number of interesting ideas as to who and why the stones were placed there with the local museum having a variety of different artefacts that have been found nearby.
The weather was unfortunately a little dark and dreary but very near to the stones is Carnac Plage which boasts some great beaches.
If you're looking to stay somewhere nearby La Grande Metairie campsite is close with the entrance to the sight being just opposite some of the main rows of stones.
